How we manufacture it?
Well it can be explained in 6 stages:-
|
1-
The dyer prepares the wool by boiling
it with a mordant (a type of fixative, generally
alum). Alternatively the due matter can be mixed
with a mordant as part of the dyeing process.
Irrespective of which method is used, water is added
and a jar or vat is than heated over a fire.
Different mordant produce different tones of colour
when they are immersed with same due matter. Deeper
shades require several immersions of the final tone.
Instead of the above procedure, the fermentation
process can be followed, where the preparation is
sealed in large jars and left in strong sunlight. The vat process, however, is
quicker and more reliable as the temperature can be
controlled more easily. |

2-
After dyeing the carpet is laid out
in the sun for drying. This process takes about 3-4
days in the evening to protect it from due it is
brought inside and again placed in the sun in the
morning. |

|
3-
Weaving: Young boys who have already
have the technical skill, are employed in weaving
carpets. This is usually conducted indoors. It is
time consuming and requires careful craftsmanship
for which these employees are well rewarded. |
|
 |
|
|
4-
Washing: Most of the carpets are
washed in the open with soap and left to dry in the
sun. Since these are sun dried the carpets / rugs do
not have any odour in them, they are fresh to look
at and retain their silky touch. |
|
 |
|
|
5-
Trimming: An essential technique is
the process of trimming carpets, once it has been
washed and dried. Trimming is a skilful art which
requires careful observation and steady hands to
give the finish product a professional look. |
